Despite all of the grammar thrown at students in junior high school and high school, why is it that they think that "Let's" can be followed by a noun? Is "Bitamin shimashoo", a direct translation, good Japanese? Me thinks not!
Tom, now retired from Kyoto Sangyo University, has a long-standing interest in the love/hate relationship between Japanese and English. Though most of his recent work is on Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and "Extensive Reading", his Ph.D. is in Japanese linguistics, his dissertation was on the accent system of a small island 40 minutes off the coast of the Shikoku mainland called "Ibuki-jima."
